Join shark researchers @savingtheblue for a trip of a lifetime! 🦈 This November they lead another exciting, shark focused expedition, and have only 4 spots available - no experience necessary! If you’d like to join, and perhaps chase your dream of tagging a wild shark, DM them ASAP before the positions are filled. On their June trip they tagged over 50 sharks in just 1 week! Be part of something special with @savingtheblue @tristanguttridge @sharksneedlove💙 . ▪ What to Expect ▪ @savingtheblue’s main research location is Andros, which is the largest island within the Bahamas. Andros offers an impressive array of diverse and heathy habitats, and is home to a broad assortment of life. Andros is largely unexplored, with limited scientific surveys having been conducted there, particularly in regard to its elasmobranch fauna. Each year, their science team run week-long research intensive expeditions to the east side of Andros with the aim of contributing critical data to their sawfish, silky shark and general elasmobranch projects. . Each expedition will be led by one of their scientists, an experienced field technician, and seven research assistants (you). Research assistants will be immersed all week in mini classes, such as knot tying and equipment prep, followed by in-field experience, actively participating in research activities. . @savingtheblue conduct a variety of science-based activities, which will include some of the following: Drone surveying, gillnetting, hand and polyball captures, short soak drumlines, and more. They are truly excited to learn more about the sharks and rays of Andros, and we thank you in advance for your support. . ▪ JOIN ▪ If you like to be part of something meaningful, and special, DM @savingtheblue @tristanguttridge @sharksneedlove . #savingtheblue #sharktagging #sharkweek #shark #sharks #nonprofit #marinebio #saltlife #sharkresearch #marinebiology

The lungs of the Earth are in flames. 🔥 The Brazilian Amazon (home to 1 million Indigenous people and 3 million species) has been burning for more than two weeks straight. There have been 74,000 fires in the Brazilian Amazon since the beginning of this year - a staggering 84% increase over the same period last year (National Institute for Space Research, Brazil). - Scientists and conservationists attribute the accelerating deforestation to President Jair Bolsonaro, who issued an open invitation to loggers and farmers to clear the land after taking office in January. The largest rainforest in the world is a critical piece of the global climate solution. Without the Amazon, we cannot keep the Earth’s warming in check. The Amazon needs more than our prayers. So what can YOU do?! - 1. As an emergency response, donate to frontline Amazon groups working to defend the forest. Donate to one or all of these: @amazonfrontlines @rainforestalliance @amazonaid @amazonwatch @savingtheamazon @amazonconservationteam @wwf @rainforesttrust @rainforestactionnetwork - please comment with more! - 2. Consider becoming a regular supporter of the Rainforest Alliance’s community forestry initiatives across the world’s most vulnerable tropical forests, including the Amazon; this approach is by far the most effective defense against deforestation and natural forest fires, but it requires deep, long-term collaboration between the communities and the public and private sectors. Link in bio! - 3. Stay on top of this story and keep sharing posts, tagging news agencies and influencers. - 4. Be a conscious consumer, taking care to support companies committed to responsible supply chains. Eliminate or reduce consumption of beef; cattle ranching is one of the primary drivers of Amazon deforestation. - 5. When election time comes, VOTE for leaders who understand the urgency of our climate crisis and are willing to take bold action—including strong governance and forward-thinking policy. - #DiscoverOcean #SaveTheAmazon #PrayForAmazonia #AmazonRainforest - Photos: @mohsinkazmitakespictures @iamnickrose @araquemoficial please dm for credit other photos.
Cute Puffin 😍 Photo/Caption by @birdtog “One morning as I was photographing Atlantic Puffins on a remote island in Scotland, the skies clouded over and it started raining. Soon it was pouring and the wind was blowing the water right into my lens. While rain can be discouraging, I think it offers an opportunity for some diversity of shots. The birds kept coming back from the sea with mouths full of fish. They kept on working, and so did I. I was soaked, but so were the puffins.“
