Dropping in for #fromhawaiiwithlove with this #dandasana lift. #lsit) .(do you notice the higher-quality image my son taught me to put my video on 4K 🤣🤣🤣) . This one is hip flexor strength core strength and hamstring flexibility. Core compression is something I don’t think I even knew about until a couple years ago. With very tight hamstrings i’ve had trouble with my forward folds for basically my whole life. And while I have core strength I’ve had to work hard on compressions. . . This kind of work helps tremendously with in versions of any kind especially handstands, and especially if you’re ready to begin working on your street line. . . The quadriceps love to cramp up in this one. So make sure you warm up with plenty of front body stretches, 1. Low lunges 2. warrior one and two 3. Lizard pose. 5. Heroes pose. 6. Up dog. . Swipe to see a video of an assisted lift in dandasana. I’m using a strap around my upper back and upper thighs to help with the compression. You have to have it tight enough so that it keeps your thighs towards your chest. And for this you have to also really warm up your hamstrings so lots of forward folds. . . Tomorrow I’m going to post the difference between an active hamstring stretch and a passive hamstring stretch. What stories are you creating? What assumptions do you hold about others? Anything that starts with “all” is never helpful. Ie. ALL men are dogs 😜 assumptions are your window and they cloud your view. Look at your relationships without your own assumptions and filters and let people surprise you and reveal themselves to you over time. 💞. . I am quite tickled by how many of you have commented on how much you like me in pink 💞💞. And while I agree pink is pinkalicious I would have to pink about it if I’m going to change my whole IG to just pink. Somebody even suggested my name should be ‘pinkfulyogini’!! Maybe I was just being pinked, I mean punked! But there will be a couple more of me in the pink... maybe I will even start a PinkedIn app to connect all the pink lovers. . . P.s. I despised pink for decades and would not wear it. Funny how things change. . . On a more serious note, i’m grateful for everyone who’s been reading my posts and was surprised how many people said they felt the same, that they had to work really hard for what they have, that it did not come easy. It’s so true that on this platform we are curating what we reveal. We’re showing a moment or maybe moments if it’s a video, and we build stories around what we see on others feeds, sometimes without even realizing it. I don’t know a single Yogi for whom things came easily. What’s wonderful is the physical work, while it can stop there, for the majority of us it just keeps going deeper and deeper. The work is an excavation and an exploration into the depths, to try to uncover who we are at our essence, and that which we all share in common. To bring it back to pink, while the heart chakra is usually green, are a few reasons your Heart chakra might be pink rather than green. The most common one is falling in love. Nothing has ever come easy for me. I expect struggle and have trouble trusting anything that does comes easily. But i am learning to find balance ..letting go of things not meant for me, The things that are just too difficult, and opening for what is. Trusting the things that are meant will be a little easier. My favorite analogy is if you are holding on for dear life to a trapeze, you can’t catch the next one and soar without letting go of the first trapeze. You will keep getting pulled back to the beginning. There’s always that moment of absolute trust and faith when you are suspended in mid air. There are endless ways to stretch and workout on this padded ball. . 1.core and upper body strength -I could only do one push-up from this height but you have to start somewhere. 😜 2. Piking/ core work for handstands. . Start in the position at the top left, suck your belly in, and begin to push the floor away and bring your shoulders over your hips. Hold for a few breaths and repeat up to 10 times. . . If you’re getting pretty comfortable up tthere tryto bring one knee into your chest at a time. . . Then turn around sit back down on your ball, or my favorite, do a backbend to stretch out your front body!! . . Long ass post warning!! . . I had a lot of you asking me about my diet and exercise habits, and of course, good lighting makes all the difference. (I don’t always look like this) . . I have a daily yoga practice including teaching because I do demonstrate when I teach. . This muscle though is 100% from my ashtanga vinyasa practice. A few times a week I do 90 minutes of ashtanga including all the lifting up, and jumping back, and jumping forwards. It’s a lot of core work. And I do planks. I do planks every damn day. I also do some mobility exercises, and I love arm balancing. The only thing I do outside of yoga is biking and walking. . Diet: I try to eat plant-based as much as I can because I feel pretty darn good when I do. But I am iron deficient anemic and I find it difficult to completely cut out meat so I eat meat and seafood to keep my iron levels up. There’s nothing I really cut out because I believe in moderation. And my history of restriction damaged my health in a serious manner. . . Late teens early 20s I was anorexic and I cut out all fat and most calories. It was drilled into me as a ballet dancer that I was never small enough. I desperately wanted the ideal body for ballet and I did not have it. I danced hours a day and I ate very little. My weight got very low and while it didn’t affect me at the time, in my early 20s I developed serious health problems. I had to stop everything for a while and I walked and I hiked, and being out in nature was very healing. But it was Yoga that finally allowed me to let go of any ideas of how I should look and focus on what my body could do. Being in classes without mirrors was kind of life-changing for me. Ironically when I let go of trying to control how I looked my body found a natural weight that felt good, and I honestly feel I’ve never looked better.. After having my two kids during which time I practiced once a week, I began to do my ashtanga practice every day. I only focus on my health and my strength. Sure I have days where I don’t feel as good as I would like to and my jeans feel tight. (Cont in comments)
It’s still Monday on the west coast... #mondayfunday!! . . Can I just say how much I love my job?! I had a student in my yoga class feel comfortable enough to not listen to most of what I was saying. He had taken my vinyasa 2/3 class before and knew the level but spent a third of the class modifying and lying down. This is everything to me. It’s not about the difficult poses you can do although I love helping people find their way into those, it’s about listening to your body and doing what YOU need to do at any given moment. This is yoga. The breath IS the practice. . . Had such a great morning. Primary series at @goodvibrations_yoga in a packed class. There wasn’t a single pose where I lost my breath. Everything felt reasonably effortless, until this, that is😂😜 @lansarkis and I helped each other into this one by @cyogalife for #mygotoposes. Inversions. I’m hooked. I’m an addict. I want to go upside down every day. Not because I need to accomplish some pose but because it may be one of the best things I know for quieting the monkey mind. Try going upside down and thinking about anything other than your breath and your muscle engagement. . . Everything becomes hyper focused; The placement of your hands, The elevation of your shoulders, your steady gaze, and most of all your breath. . . Time slows down, and when you come out of it you feel like you’ve had the best glass of wine you’ve ever had +5 espressos. 🤣 calm focused and invigorated. . . I had a request for the video for my post today, so here is a snippet of my process.. basically just messing around after class to see what works. I take a theme.. in this case the compass/half Lotus and goof around. Some days it yields some good photos or breakthroughs.
