Day 232 – 8.20 Bad Sooden-Allendorf, Germany 2015 “Gratitude is the sign of noble souls.” Aesop During the Harvest Thanksgiving Festival, every home is somehow adorned with a sign or symbol of gratitude for the food received in the past year. It is the recognition that the good in our lives comes from something outside of our control, whether other people or nature, but that we depend upon for our wellbeing. Genuine gratitude invites us to experience the miracle of everyday life and to celebrate it instead of ignoring it or taking it for granted. Gratitude also reveals the magic of life. In Aesop’s Fables, Androcles, an escaped slave comes across a lion with a painful and bleeding paw. Carefully, he pulls the thorn out of his paw and the lion licks his hand in gratitude. Years later the slave is caught and put into an arena with a starving lion. However, as the hungry, salivating lion runs to Androcles, he recognizes him. He stops and licks his hand like a friendly dog. Miraculously, both are set free. Nowadays, true gratitude seems to be a rare virtue, although it has been called the “queen of virtues” by the 1st century Roman statesman, Cicero. I did something fun the other day for my workout... 🌇🏬🏃🏼‍♀️🐆✨ Completely out of the norm & strictly resulted from impulse. I’ve said this a lot lately on my stories but for the past couple weeks I’ve been in a big “transition phase.” & what I notice in my training is that whatever is going on in my LIFE effects my TRAINING. For example: If the last 2-3 weeks (not including this week) have been “in transition”, then that means I am in my head a little more often. A little anxious, worried, contemplative and a little uncomfortable...some side effects of experiencing change. & If I’m in my head throughout the day, that typically makes me feel “bogged down” or “stuck.” So when it comes time to train, I just want to feel FREE! I want to exert. I want to get OUT whatever stress is IN my body through physical exertion. So I ran around the town. I walked some laps at the medical mall, I jogged along the streets and if I saw a store that interested me, I’d go check it out as an “active rest.” (I bought a water in each store 😅) I tossed a couple cart wheels here and there and jogged bag to my car. It felt nice. I felt like I was getting to know the land I live on or something 🤔 (😂) I’m not sure, but it just made me feel free....Unrestricted...And like I could go anywhere I wanted! & maybe that’s what was so freeing about it... Is that it’s TRUE. I CAN go wherever I want! Perhaps, we’re never bound,or tied, or “stuck.” Maybe we just feel that way because life circumstances are pressing on us. & that feels heavy at times... We can’t blame ourselves for feeling the “pit”...but doesn’t mean we should stay in it! We can train ourselves to feel light... Feel free in our decisions, in our moves, in ourself. Movement is necessary to get to know the body. Movement is necessary to get to know the land it lives on. Take the training outside of what we’re comfortable with and often find deeper truth... It’s a powerful thing, huh? For the body to be so liberating to the mind. We just have to move it. ✨ . . So, my moving and eating have been OFF. Like, way off! And this month I decided to do something about it. . I joined a fitness group on FB (message me if you want info; the young woman who runs it is AWESOME), and I’m getting back into my good eating habits again. (I’m wearing a compression sleeve here because of the lymphedema in my arm.) . Holla if you’ve stepped off your wellness wagon! Moment of spontaneous joy and flow with the one and only; @shivarea108 . 💃💃 Just finished an incredible training that delved into the fusion of Vinyasa Flow Yoga with Kalari - the oldest living martial art - originating in India, and even exploring how the two share similar roots (as Kalari training requires lots of flexibility, self discipline and concentration). Both practices have some similar moves/postures/sequences and aim to give the practitioner rooted power with the ability to be fluid/to flow. Kalari also integrates body awareness, instinctual movement and awakens the flow of energy/Prana in the body with the ultimate aim to have the “body become all eyes”. Kalari involves no ego, has deep spiritual roots and males/females are both encouraged to begin as early as age 9. Shiva has been one of the few female Westerners to be initiated in this martial art and to bring it to the West. It is easy to experience her devotion and passion to this movement form and its philosophies, as she has woven it into vinyasa yoga flow in such a powerful and beautiful way. She has a way of combining ancient ways into modern methods. This has been of the most amazing trainings I’ve ever had the privilege of taking; Shiva is an authentic, genuine, refreshing and wildly vibrant teacher, who embodies what she teaches in every way. This book is just fabulous. #therealmofthehungryghosts talks about addiction. And his work with the Portland house in. Canada. This passage for me is so powerful. . . . I see people every day that want to change their addictive pattern through only attuning biochemical or physiological change. These addictions can be multiple things, sex, gambling, working, alcohol, drugs, food.....Digging deeper into the “why” behind the addiction there is always a story. There is always a subconscious conversation people have that include rage, hurt, pain, loss, distrust, Etc... This is where true addiction breeds... and where true healing can take place. . . . Healthy food, preparation, abstinence, self care are all part of the treatment puzzle but digging deep and revealing, peeling layers, opening up to changing the landscape of the conversations creates the most impact that is long standing in people’s lives.
