The #Renault16 was a revolution. In 1965, when the 16 appeared, it was one of the most modern cars ever. It was a middleclass car, a hatchback and also an estate. There was also front-wheel drive. In addition, it was light and therefore by no means slow. No wonder, then, that the Renault 16 was sold over 1,800,000 times. A huge success. It remained in the Renault sales program for 15 years. So as it’s #redcarsweek and #frenchfriday a almost perfect combination! @carfatzke #vintagecar #vintagecarspotting #classiccarspotting #carspotting #cars #retrocars #carstagram #carsofinstagram #classiccarsdaily #classiccarshow #retrorides #carsfromthepast #petrolpunx #petrolicious #classiccar #classiccars #instacars #classiccarsofinstagram

I think @carfatzke |s #redcarsweek needs something really red. A car from the #SovietUnion - or more precisely, from the #Ukraine. And during the 1960s #ZAZ (Zaporizhia Automobile Building Plant) built in Zaporizhia a small rear-wheel-drive car reminiscent of the #Fiat600 that was quite popular in the Soviet Union. Its nicknames were "The Hunchback" or "Dnieper Cossack". But in the 1960s it was time for a replacement, a new #Zaporozhets. And so the #ZAZ966 appeared in 1966. And like it's predecessor, the 965, the ZAZ966 was based on western designs. Thus the design line of the #Chevrolet #Corvair was exported to the east - with an stopover station called #NSU #Prinz. The similarities between the cars are obvious. In the rear of the car was a lively V4 engine with 30 bhp. The 966 was also popular in Western Europe, including some Scandinavian countries and France. Some markets even fitted a 956 cc Renault engine. The car in the picture is a later version, the 968A, which was produced from 1973 to 1980. The 968A was the last "Zapo" (as it was called in the Eastern Bloc) to have ear-like air intakes. Then the Zapo lost its charm. I'm not sure if it's an urban legend, but it's always claimed that there were versions with a built-in flap in the bottom of the car that could be used for ice-fishing in winter. Whether it's true or not, I like the story too much. #vintagecar #vintagecarspotting #classiccarspotting #carspotting #cars #retrocars #carstagram #carsofinstagram #classiccarsdaily #classiccarshow #retrorides #carsfromthepast #petrolpunx #petrolicious #classiccar #classiccars #instacars #classiccarsofinstagram

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna make some mistakes right now. First of all, it's about the #VW #Beetle. Not this new jellyfish with wheels that Volkswagen launched a few years ago in the Retro-Craze. I'm talking about the good old #Beetle. Problem number one: who follows me here knows about my split relationship with #Volkswagen. Number two: the #Beetle bores me endlessly. But there is one exception. Remember the #SP2 I recently featured here? It came from VW do Brazil - and there, in Brazil, the Beetle was built, which I find somehow entertaining. And it was called "Fusca". While the Mexico Beetle is quite well known, the #Fusca drives a bit in the shade of it. And the details that make it special are certainly many. But here it needs real experts to name every detail. The Fusca is a wild mix of Beetle parts of different models and times. But the most striking detail, at least for me, is that the Fusca kept the smaller windows of the 1958-64 models. And with the Fusca a modernized interior was added at some point, which looks wonderfully anachronistic. The Fusca was built until 1996. That'd be the Beetle for me. #volkswagen #vintagecar #vintagecarspotting #classiccarspotting #carspotting #cars #retrocars #carstagram #carsofinstagram #classiccarsdaily #classiccarshow #retrorides #carsfromthepast #petrolpunx #petrolicious #classiccar #classiccars #instacars #classiccarsofinstagram

Let's make #redcarsweek happen @carfatzke - even I'm in the "IG-bad-performance crew" 😂 Anyway - it's red, it's french, it's strange. It's the #2CV |s big brother. The #Citroën #Ami6 is not from this world. What a design. From a time, when at the Citroën design departement a good glass of red whine was part of the deal. It's #SubaruSunday! And I bring you this well used #Subaru #Leone - or also known as the L-Series, the L1800. In Japan this third generation of compact Subaru saloons was also sold as #Isuzu #Geminett II. This was before the Subaru Rally craze. I NEED YOUR HELP - SPREAD THE WORD. I'm looking for this #prototype. You can see the #ADO35 here - a proposal for a new #MG #Midget. It was designed in the mid-1960s by #Pininfarina, together with a convertible (ADO34). Both were based on #Mini technology (subframes, engine etc.). And both were never built. The convertible apparently remained with #BMC, the Coupé disappeared. It is only known that it was rescued by a BMC employee at some point. A restoration was started, but the owner wanted to remain anonymous. Current pictures do not exist. The only known pictures are these two (source unknown). One picture shows a Range Rover in the background. Perhaps someone can recognize by the license plate where this picture was taken. Are there people who are very familiar with Pininfarina and possibly know more about these cars? I am currently writing an article about these prototypes and would like to know what happened to the coupé. Spread the word - we have to find it. It is a relevant piece of BMC/Leyland/Pininfarina/MG-History that needs to be unearthed. @pininfarina_official #vintagecar #vintagecarspotting #classiccarspotting #carspotting #cars #retrocars #carstagram #carsofinstagram #classiccarsdaily #classiccarshow #retrorides #carsfromthepast #petrolpunx #petrolicious #classiccar #classiccars #instacars #classiccarsofinstagram

#VANdnesday continues with these two old Mercedes TN - the "Bremen Transporter" as this was build in Bremen between 1977 and 1984. Production ended in 1995 in Germany. And today it is the diy campervan for many. And by the way. It's still going strong in India. Force is still producing many variants. #van #vanlove #vintagecar #vintagecarspotting #classiccarspotting #carspotting #cars #retrocars #carstagram #carsofinstagram #classiccarsdaily #classiccarshow #retrorides #carsfromthepast #petrolpunx #petrolicious #classiccar #classiccars #classiccarsofinstagram

petrolpunx. The question of what the coolest #Volkswagen is is difficult to answer

The question of what the coolest #Volkswagen is is difficult to answer, at least from my perspective. So be before I start – what do you think, what ist he coolest VW? I found just about every #VW boring. But it gets interesting when you look outside of Germany. Especially in South America, where Volkswagen has been producing for decades. And it was in Brazil of all places that the VW came into being, which I think is perhaps the coolest. The #SP2! I won't surprise anybody with that now, the SP2 is known by everyone who is dealing with old sheet metal with four wheels. When you see the SP2, you immediately think of a kit car. One of the many GFK kits in which a Beetle engine runs. Exactly that is not the SP2. Its steel body was manufactured by Kahrmann in Brazil where the final assembly was also carried out - VW do Brasil took care of all the other parts. The development took place largely without the knowledge of the VW Group, which was then, around 1971, as good as finished car presented. The SP (stands for Sao Paulo), built on the frame of a Brazilian Type 3 and was designed by brazilian chaps Márcio Piancastelli, José Vicente Martins Novita and George Yamashita Oba. The SP2 never officially made it to Europe, which is quite sad. But it was sold in some Arab countries. For some reason in Nigeria there was also a small production of CKD kits. For VW there was not enough potential in the SP2. At VW they wanted to start a new era in which there was no room for air-cooled rear-engined cars. I can hardly get enough of the car. Everything is right about the shape. There are also remarkable details. For example, I always thought that the coloured trim was stickers. But these parts are remarkably solid and screwed on. Remarkable is also the construction of the rear-view mirrors and the windscreen wipers (is that a pentagraph wiper @hubnutvids ?). Yes, maybe the coolest VW - or what do you think? #vintagecar #vintagecarspotting #classiccarspotting #carspotting #cars #retrocars #carstagram #carsofinstagram #classiccarsdaily #classiccarshow #retrorides #carsfromthepast #petrolpunx #petrolicious #classiccar #classiccars #instacars #classiccarsofinstagram

Now something completely different. When I look at cars like the #Renault #Dauphine or the #Citroen GS, as an example, they captivate with their design, where everything is recognizable at first glance. With the #DeSoto Adventurer it's completely different. It is still from the time when tail fins were allowed to grow infinitely and obviously there was no measure for anything. And with all the crown jewels, DeSoto was something like a cheap car. In the #Chrysler group below Chrysler set. But the Adventurer was so to speak "Top of the Line" at DeSoto. In the picture the last Adventurer, which was also the last DeSoto at all. When its last version appeared in 1960, it was as good as clear that DeSoto was history. The brand was shelfed in 1961. Somehow these cars were never my thing, but I still like to look at them. There are just so many details to look at. One thing you can't see here is Chrysler's patented swiveling front seat, which was supposed to make it easier to get in and out. #vintagecar #vintagecarspotting #classiccarspotting #carspotting #cars #retrocars #carstagram #carsofinstagram #classiccarsdaily #classiccarshow #retrorides #carsfromthepast #petrolpunx #petrolicious #classiccar #classiccars #instacars #classiccarsofinstagram

petrolpunx. There are cars whose appeal as classics somehow does not want to stand

There are cars whose appeal as classics somehow does not want to stand up. Sometimes this is because their potential is not recognized. Or that they stand in the shadow of their big brothers. I bring you: the #Volvo #340 Series. Everything starts in the 1970s - but actually much earlier. As early as 1928 Hub van Doorne founded a kind of metal construction company in the tranquil town of Eindhooven/NL. And this eventually became Van Doorne's Aanhangwagenfabriek N.V. - we know it today as #DAF. And since the 1950s DAF has been building a whole series of small cars. But in the 1970s DAF finds itself in financial turmoil, which leads to Volvo taking over the entire passenger car production. And so Volvo also takes over the P900 project, which is to replace the popular 66 as DAF 77. And so the Volvo 340 was born, which was initially presented as a three-door model at the Geneva International Motor Show in 1976. The small 1.4 litre engines came from Renault, and initially the 343 (343 as the first cars only came in a three door hatchbak layout) also received the typical DAF Variomatic transmission. Until 1991, new body variants followed and finally a Volvo B19 engine. Actually, there is not the slightest reason why the 340 and the 360 still seems to be in the shadow of other Volvo models. This 340 here is clearly on steroids. A track ready oddball.
