I can't believe it was 8 months ago we moved from west coast Canggu to east coast Sanur .. how that time has flown. But one thing is for sure .. it was most definitely the right thing to do as get to see views like this every morning. In the lead up to our relocation, the balance of life, (kids, Gav's travel, packing, logistics, major home renovations we were rushing & the onset of Winter with all the coughs & colds it brings), meant something had to give, for me it ended up being my personal training. I stopped seeing my awesome trainer Gaz (@ap3x_performance) a couple of months before we left Aus & then we got here to Singapore and it's been one of those things I kept scratching up to not enough time, don't know who to see, don't want to end up with a shit trainer, don't want to spend more money etc. It was just not a priority. I've recently just started back up and I'm kicking myself I didn't do it sooner. My mindset from a few weeks ago, where I was feeling very depressed, has lifted almost instantly and my motivation, has been given a kick up the butt. If there's one bit of knowledge I can impart on people who, like me, did not grow up geared towards understanding or enjoying exercise & have always struggled to make it a priority, you have to find what works for YOU, not what you think or have been conditioned to believe is what you SHOULD be doing. If you're dreading putting in the work, going to the gym, if you're deflated, unmotivated, stressed or not seeing results maybe you need to try something different. Over the years I've attended many classes, yoga, spin, aquarobics, pump, the lot, tried to do the self motivated gym thing, have spent endless money on and persisted seeing trainers I dreaded seeing because I thought it's what I SHOULD be doing for myself. More often than not those efforts left me feeling worse about myself, less motivated and going backwards because I was forcing myself to be someone and do things not right for me. In the last 3 years I've realised what works for me is a combination of finding the RIGHT trainer (not just any trainer), doing one on one personalised and focussed training in strength building (not high intensity cardio - that shit can fuck right off), and lots of walking or biking - preferably with good tunes or good company. It's what I can handle, manage, stay motivated to do, enjoy and don't dread. More on this later. #dontgiveup

Òran Mór was such a curious place to me when I first encountered it. I first fell in love with its beautiful mosaic artwork at the entrance – sporting a young couple dancing. It’s the remnants of Kelvinside Parish Church turned literally into a bar-restaurant-night club, made even more flippantly haunting at night by a tilted red neon halo affixed to the top of the steeple (or in #architecture terms, the spire of the building). The spire gives a solid nod to Italian gothic design and sits atop a tall campanile tower, the first notably foreign influence in Glasgow they say. The name itself is Gaelic for “great melody of life.” . The problem was that the church - like many across Scotland now - remained derelict for years until businessman Colin Beattie entered the picture, purchasing the property for £1.1 million back in the early 2000s, then investing another £7.4 million on renovations and improvements. Renowned artist Alasdair Gray painted murals on the ceiling of the building’s main auditorium – paintings which chart the signs of the zodiac, star movements, moon phases and – Glasgow: a £350,000 investment by patrons of the arts.
