As a running coach, I usually have one of the following challenges when working with clients: 1. Helping them stick to the plan with consistent workouts. Coaching is only effective when you do the workouts! 2. Pulling them back from doing too much, skipping rest days, or working at a higher intensity than the plan dictates. Results come from consistent workouts AND adequate rest and recovery. You don’t improve fitness, get stronger or faster during the workout, it happens in the recovery after the workout. So if you don’t take rest days, don’t ever scale back the intensity, don’t sleep well, or don’t fuel with proper nutrition you may be sacrificing the very thing you are working for: results!! More is not always better.
