Did workouts I been avoiding to do because of pain and didn’t feel comfortable doing in front of other people. - - I did a workout on the leg press but not what the machine is for. I got on it side ways to isolate the glutes. I was scared people were going to watch me and judge but once I started doing it, all I focused on was my workout. Even if you don't feel it directly, each exercise will work your stability muscles, so abs are working indirectly without noticing. Sets: 4 x sets of 12-15 reps with a weight you can comfortably lift. Pregnancy Sets: 3 x sets of 12 reps with a weight you feel it doesn't pull your belly forward, strain your neck. Hug that baby towards your back.👈 I am lifting a 4kg for single arm work and 2 x 4kg for double arm work. Tips: 1️⃣Draw Ribs in towards the back and down towards pelvic area, to stabilize your lumbar and whole back. 2️⃣ When doing squats don't tuck your pelvis in as you reach the squat position. Weak point training for squatting : . A key aspect of optimizing programming is to strategically select exercises based upon an athletes weaknesses that he/she needs to address. Choosing exercise variations that best compliment the competitive exercises by bringing up lagging muscle groups or technical deficiencies in a lifter. . The most common area for an athlete to miss a squat is a few inches above parallel on the way up. The most common deficiency is a weak legs vs strong back scenario. This can be identified by the athlete’s knees shifting backward as the first movement out of the hole, that causes their hips to rise faster than their shoulders. Because the athlete has a relatively strong back, they’ll be able to fight against the weight for a few seconds and do a good morning their way through the sticking point. . To correct this deficiency, the quads in particular need to be developed, ideally without loading the back. For any exercise that involves you finishing in hip extension (eg deadlifts, squats, bridges, hip thrusts, etc.), make sure you actually finish in hip extension, with a neutral spine, don’t extend through the lumbar spine (aka arch your lower back). . Image 1 shows what it looks like to extend the hips with a neutral spine, notice the straight line from the head to toes. Image 2 shows what it looks like to finish in lumbar extension (arched lower back), this loads up the lower back! . Deadlifts (all variations), are probably the exercise where you most see people over extend through the lumbar spine to finish the movement. Everybody has seen someone do this! FIX YOUR GLUTE BRIDGE! - What’s up, Achievers?! @laurenpak22 here and I wanted to talk about glute bridges today! The number one mistake we see when people perform glute bridges, or any 🍑 exercise on the ‘Gram for that matter is excessive arching of the lower back. At first glance, this might *seem* like it’s working the glutes more because you’re sticking your booty out, but it’s actually accomplishing the exact opposite! - If you’re having lower back pain while bridging, don’t worry! Oftentimes, just a simple modification can make all the difference in taking some pressure off of the back. - Now, even if you *know* that you shouldn’t aggressively arch your back, it still might be difficult for you to do so. One way you can counteract this is to use your breath as well as your hands on your rib cage as physical feedback. Exhaling really encourages your rib cage to come down and having your hands there also facilitates that motion. Try it out during your next set of glute bridges and let us know what you think! - If you practice yoga, this post definitely isn’t for you! Bridging in a yoga context is different from a fitness context - one is a more holistic pose and the other has a very specific, isolated, purpose of hip extension and glute engagement. - We hope this video helped you out! Hack squats for today. Doing these with my feet high and wider than shoulder width to put more emphasis on glutes than quads. Hack squat is a compound exercise so you will still feel it in your quads and hamstrings. *No time under tension today but still focus on form and get a good stretch and contraction in.
