Day 6 of Style Your Splits2 is an inversion. I went with a one-handed standing split. I did a standing split yesterday as a compass pose. But that was standing up. This is more forward fold and inverted, so definitely different. It's also a compromise between getting the head close to the shin, and both, one, or no hands. With both hands down, the leg can go higher. With no hands, the leg drops. Since verticality is the goal with this standing split variation, this trade-off with one hand was as good as it got today -- without walking my foot up the wall or other support. This was just me. Inverting and balancing, as straight as possible. This is also for Week 4 of Phase 5, of Super Splits Sundays. The assigned pose is a standing split. Humans find comfort in familiarity; naturally gravitating towards those who have similar lifestyles, habits, ideas, looks, etc.. Most people want you to be just like them— it’s easy to relate to what we know. This concept and execution of conformity amongst individuals is the driving force that society banks on— Society wants you to conform. Go through the system : learn all the same things in school, get into the workforce, take your two weeks off, purchase a house, car ; purchase enough assets to remain trapped. Society wants to keep you under control. And most people are ok with this! Why? Because it’s comfortable. They know where the path leads, there’s no uncertainty, no grey area. This is why so many of us feel lost . We’re stuck between what we think we want —what we’ve been told to want, ‘the american dream’, and what we actually want, which is.. well, who knows? Have we even asked ourselves that question? I straddled this line for years - trying to find the balance between the two. And every time I’ve strayed, society made me feel like I was doing something wrong. Society said I wouldn’t be happy, said I wouldn’t be successful. Growing up, my dad use to say “Find out what everyone else is doing, and do the opposite” I didn’t understand back then, but I do now. I took my chances, and I’ll continue to take my chances. So I’m sorry that I’m not sorry. And perhaps this is my middle finger to the system, to social norms — I disagree. I won’t follow suit. I won’t conform out of a fear of the unknown. True change, growth, originality and self-discovery is not born from conformity, but rather the opposite. New ideas do not surface from the known; they arise from the unknown. It is only those who have gone off the beaten path and done something different who have truly affected change, both in the world and within themselves . Today I practiced self love.⁣ ⁣ (At yesterday's Reiki II training we talked about the importance of self love. Not just caring for yourself, but loving yourself. Genuinely and unconditionally. So today I slept in, I went to my favorite brunch place, I spent time in nature, I did a luxuriously long restorative yoga under the glow of my favorite lights and candles, I wore the "special" jewelry just because, I cuddled on the couch with a comfortable old quilt, I was happy for no reason. I loved myself. I loved me. Self love [self care] doesn't have to be a buzz phrase that invokes images of an indulgent afternoon at a spa... it can be [should be] an all day, every day practice where what you do, how you do it, when you do it, and why you do it is with appreciation, affection, and tenderness for yourself. And. It's. A. Practice. Someone remind me of this when I'm an agitated ball of nervous energy in the airport tomorrow, please.)

My challenging side 🙀 My right leg was still at 2 o’clock just 2-3 months ago. This really really took me by surprised. It has to be the Vinyasa classes that I have been taking lately. So much hips mobilisation during all the different transitions 😍 My hips used to be very stuck due to a surgery long time ago, on my lower back, right at the part where the lumber spine connects with the sacrum (L5-S1). L5-S1 helps transfer loads from the spine into the pelvis and legs, hence the surgery affected my hips mobility. If yoga can help my hopeless hips so much, it can help anyone.
