Wild and Ready for the Weekend: Are you familiar with red dogs? The term “red dogs” is an affectionate name given by admirers to the tiny baby American Bison who start out in life with a bright red fur and who are as random and sporadic with their endless energy as you would find in a young canine puppy. *** I have had many great experiences with bison, from memorializing their dead, to standing off grizzlies, to the play time of spring. It is the spring time that I enjoy most and I can only imagine what these herds might have been like 200 years ago. Although their numbers are much smaller now, they are still accessible to enjoy in Yellowstone National Park. If you want a little taste of this experience, then please visit Lamar Valley in Yellowstone from mid-spring to early summer to see these red dogs in action. To illustrate the term red dogs a little further, just take a look here to see that same puppy-like curiosity with the this little one chasing its tails. For me, red dogs are too cute not to smile when you have the chance to see them run and play. ****** Follow @spanphotography ****** © SPAN Photography, Sean Sharp ****** #exelent_nature #animalelite #splendid_animals #animallovers #aswediscover #wildplanetphotomag #big_shotz #animalkingdom #animalsofinstagram #gettheshot #instanature #FindYourPark #NationalPark #nationalparksusa #yellowstonenationalpark #yellowstonenps #yellowstonepledge #beyondyellowstone #lamarvalley #naturalwyoming #wyoming #visitwyoming #thatswy #visityellowstone #epicyellowstone #babybison #bisonbaby #pickaboo #wagmytail #chasingmytail ****** @wild.planet @featured_wildlife @wyomingmagazine @national_park_photographer

Not the best lighting, but do not forget to use two fingers to zoom in. (Instagram users) Moose are not frequently spotted here in Yellowstone. Only throughout certain habitats will you find these mysterious creatures. Fun fact Moose are the largest members of the Cervidae (deer) family. Hi! It’s Barb Jividen @barb.jividen here this week on the last day of my NANPA Instagram takeover at @nanpapix. This week I’ll be sharing a few of my favorites each day. I shoot some of my images on solo trips; but I do most of my shooting with my husband/partner, @jerry.jividen, as we travel throughout North America (usually in an RV). Be sure to follow both of us on Instagram. You can also find me on Facebook, at www.facebook.com/barb.jividen and www.facebook.com/groups/EpicWomanPhotoAdventures Who Eats First - From the area of our vehicle, we photographed these two coyotes in Yellowstone NP on a roadside kill. Here, we witnessed the pecking order of “who eats first.” The carcass and the feeding frenzy lasted for several days, and we were able to capture other species benefitting from the downed elk, including a Golden Eagle and a couple of Bald Eagles. It was early in the morning and the mist was not quite off the mountain when we reached Oxbow Bend on our way to Yellowstone....it was so serene, the only break in the water, the ducks. #oxbow #oxbowbend #yellowstonepledge #ynp #yellowstonenps #photographybylb #nationalpark #visitnationalparks #grandtetons #grandtetonnationalpark #jacksonhole #jacksonwyoming #wyoming #wy #mountains #Reflections #yellowstonenationalpark #yellowstonenps #yellowstone #yellowstonepark #september #september2018

You can also find me on Facebook, at www.facebook.com/barb.jividen and www.facebook.com/groups/EpicWomanPhotoAdventures Playing with His Food – The scene played out for us in Yellowstone during a heavy snow storm as this coyote hunted and caught an ermine. The snow was so dense at times that auto-focusing was difficult at best and manually fine-tuning was needed. We quietly watched and photographed as the coyote tossed its prey over and over before devouring this small carnivore (in the weasel family). Ironically, just one day earlier, we photographed an ermine (possibly this very one) hunt and consume a vole. For us, it was an awesome experience to witness the circle of life as it played out in Yellowstone’s harsh winter conditions. Lens: Nikkor 600mm, f/4 Shutter: 1/640th sec. “I pledge to protect Yellowstone National Park. I will act responsibly and safely, set a good example for others, and share my love of the park and all the things that make it special.” - Yellowstone Pledge⠀ ⠀ If you visit, please take this pledge to heart. Seriously, please. Don’t be an idiot. ⠀ ⠀ A couple of weeks after we visited, a man suffered severe burns near the cone of Old Faithful and had to be transported to the hospital.⠀ ⠀ Because he did not stay on the boardwalks.⠀ ⠀ Because he did not the pledge to heart.⠀ ⠀ Because he wasn't thinking.⠀ ⠀ This was America's first National Park, set apart for all of us and our future generations to enjoy. Flashback to summer in #YellowstoneNPS, when the four of us were all together, having fun and exploring... and it was hot out! . . Life has been so busy ever since we got back from that trip and we've been apart a lot. One of our goals for 2020 is to... wait for it... travel less. I know that sounds crazy, but even though we've built this really fun, remarkable, enriched life for our family, we are super tired and strained. . . Next year we aim to manage our business differently, allowing us to have more time at home together and to cultivate friendships.  And less travel doesn't mean less fun. It means that we get to explore close to home, to go camping more, and to relax. Now, back to work/making dinner/managing kids/trying not to fall asleep standing up in the middle of the kitchen. . . . . . . . . . . . #blogginglife #yellowstonenationalpark #yellowstonepledge #yellowstoneforever #findyourpark #goparks #nationalparkgeek #travelwithkids #gaydad #gaydads #twodays #lgbtfamily #nationalparktravel #yellowstonenp #mammothhotsprings #yellowstonecountry #yellowstonephotography #yellowstone #thatswy

“Yes. Nearly everybody gets twitterpated in the springtime. For example: You're walking along, minding your own business. You're looking neither to the left, nor to the right, when all of a sudden you run smack into a pretty face. WHOO-WHOO! You begin to get weak in the knees. Your head's in a whirl. And then you feel light as a feather; and before you know it, you're walking on air. And then you know what? You're knocked for a loop, and you completely lose your head!” -Friend Owl, Bambi.

Wolf 1118F: 2014-2019. I took this photo earlier this year of a wolf collared as 1118F. Her collar gave a mort signal mid September of this year. Wolf 1118F was born in the Mollies pack in 2014. In 2018 she had a litter of pups and moved to the Cub Creek area. There, her and her mate formed a subgroup. In November 2018 she traveled outside the borders of Yellowstone National Park. A subordinate females wolf in the group got shot, and 1118 got hit in her front right leg. Her pups weren’t seen anymore after this. The wolf survived the winter of 2018-2019 on three legs, mostly scavenging carcasses. In September 2019 the Wolf Project got a mort signal of her collar. . . . #yellowstone #yellowstonenps #yellowstonepledge #yellowstoneforever #natgeo #natgeotravel #wildlifeplanet #featuredwildlife #wildlifefeaturez #photography #wildlifephotography #keepitwild #naturephotography #ourplanetdaily #natgeoyourshot #wyoming #wildwolf #wildlifeguide #yellowstoneguide #nikon #ynpforever #wolf #wolves #wolfpack #wildwolves #visitgardinermt #wyominguntrapped #nationalparkgeek

Where I grew up coyotes were - and still are - treated like vermin. They’re shot, trapped, chased with dogs, and generally harassed as much as possible. As a kid I saw how people treated coyotes, and I thought,”Wow coyotes must be really horrible creatures for us to treat them this way.” But as I’ve grown, I’ve discovered that how people treated coyotes didn’t say all that much about the coyotes - and it said a whole lot about people. . . . . . . . #saltcityphotographers #nikon #nikonusa #nikonnofilter #conservationist #nationalparklife #nationalparkgeek #findyourpark #wildlifephotography #natgeo #yellowstonepledge #yellowstone #wildcoyote #yellowstonenationalpark #wildlifeonearth #coyotes #wildlifeofinstagram #instawildlife #natgeowild #wildlifeconservation #respectwildlife #nature_brilliance #coyote #savethecoyotes #winterwildlife #yellowstoneforever #lamarvalley #wildlife_vision #audubonsociety #nanpapix
