Yoga is more than the physical shape it leaves you in.. it’s about the shape it leaves your mind, mood, and attitude in when you’re done. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• some days I really don’t know how I’m going to get it all done..but one way or another , it gets done.. the 2 jobs, the kids, the housework.. Its nonstop from the second I wake up.. but I love being a mom & a nurse, I enjoy being a yogi, and I enjoy being social.. for me, it’s a matter of finding balance and maintaining a positive perspective through self-care. I have covered a lot of upper body mobility drills in the last couple weeks, haven’t got a chance to really hit the lower body. In this post I am going to touch base on the hip. The hip has been called the “engine” of the body as it’s movement quality is critical to basically all forms of movement and locomotion. The hip is also important to the function and health of your lower back and knees as your hip positioning, strength, stability, and range of motion is such a major factor in movement and hip dysfunction can wreak havoc down (and up) the chain and can affect your feet, ankles, knees, and lower back. I have recently heard someone say “the knees are just an extension of what the hips are doing.” Which is true in many ways. Your ability to contract your glutes can also be hindered by limited and tight hips in extension as they are directly related. Tight hips usually = a hard time in contracting the glutes. Anyway, in this drill I’m using the bench to position my hip behind me, which is a great stretch already in the quads and hip flexors. Using two sticks for props to assist in rotation adds another element to the stretch when I reach out with the opposite arm I am using a spiral myofascial line to stretch my hip and as soon as I get a deeper rotation I feel it more in the opposite hip. I am also alternating between passive and active contractions in the hip by pressing into the bench followed by passive stretching and adjusting the position shortly after by either getting deeper or getting my hip further behind me. You can even play with pulling your foot off the bench with hard hamstring contractions. I like to play around with position and contractions. #hipgang #hipflow #mobilitytraining

This is true. However, nonviolence has many subtleties of how we reduce or enhance our power and grounding. . The subtle implications also speak to our thoughts about ourselves and the world, feelings of powerlessness, speaking unkind words and exploding in anger and violent outbursts. . . Child's pose also moves us to an intent to surrender - to those things that no longer serve the highest expression of ourselves. The thoughts and deeds that reduce our power. . In this pose you're afforded an opportunity to surrender, to let go, to see the energy that you wish to rid seep deeply into the Earth for purification. . .
