Day 2 of #donthurrydontworry Standing Forward Fold —— Uttanasana has definitely been a journey.. I remember a time where the full expression of this posture was so beyond the scope of my body’s comprehension.. One of my favorite sutras that I share in my class from time to time is Yoga Sutra #14. This sutra talks about how for any practice to be grounded it needs to involve 3 things: 1. You need to give it the time it requires to become grounded 2. You need to practice with consistency 3. Your practice must have focus Take children learning how to walk as an example.. they give it the time it requires until they master the skill, they do it daily, with consistency.. they don’t give up after falling a few times or decide that walking is not meant for them.. and lastly, they do it with so much focus, it’s inspiring. I find that yoga allows us to develop flexibility in our minds before bodies, if we allow it to. Many people overlook the importance of hip flexibility in this pose and tend to focus on shoulders and upper back. If your hips are not very open, you will most likely sink to one side. This will cause your spine to bend to the side as well. You want hips even and spine straight in order to get the most length in your chest to help you grab your foot and for proper backbend alignment. 2. Really lengthen your spine as much as possible. It will help you reach for your foot. 3. When grabbing for back foot, try to grab a lower position rather than the toes. That way, when you flip your grip, you are less likely to lose hold of the foot. 4. Practice with a strap until you gain the flexibility to do this pose 5. To protect the neck, try not to kink it all the way back just to touch the foot .

My autumn practice was focused on not loosing strength 🍃. I didn't aim at progressing, because my body and my mind needed to rest... . I start to see patterns in my yoga practice - last year during autumn time I needed to restore and I was rewarded with a very powerful and energetic start of the year. I hope it will be the same with 2020 😊. . Not loosing strength means to practice strong longer flows containing poses such as planks, chaturangas, warriors or inversions at least 1-2 a week. It has been enough to maintain my ability to perform all poses as usual - I might have less endurance than I had during summer, but I feel I do the right thing ❤️. On the other days I practice yin yoga, simple stretches or just relaxation. So even if you are working on something and you have set yoga goals for yourself, I encourage you to rest. Your body may surprise you! . . And #keepitreal like: not considering it important to edit the picture and delete that socket 😁. I'm probably a weirdo, because seing sockets on other people's yoga pictures creates a sence of realness and it makes me happy 😂! . . . #YogisIgnite . .
