Do you have a stalled knitting or crochet project? You might have a very carefully chosen pattern for your Polwarth yarn and it got to a tricky point that could do with another set of eyes on it. The highly skilled Ami Hillege from @otwayfields will be in the woolshop this Sunday 22 Sept between 10am and 4pm to lend a hand and try to get you back on track. (The couch by the wood fire in the studio will counter the wintery forecast)
The heart and soul of country hospitality was very strong in Mortlake today. The Western Plains Spinners Weavers and Craft group offered @great_ocean_road_mill and Tarndie a chance to talk about what we do, and in the process we were plied with so many delicious sandwiches, slices, offers of a tea cup refill and friendly chats. Happy to note the jelly slice made a guest appearance at the end to sustain us on those long roads home.
A heavenly day amongst the lambs and birds at Tarndie. The newly duplicated highway and the wind turbines around Mt Gellibrand add a contemporary vibe to the age old setting.
Daisy had a little lamb, Little lamb, little lamb.
Botanic Dyeing on #Polwarth Wool workshop today at Tarndie reveals a breadth of colour available to us from natural sources. @wildheather_australia had us boiling up a eucalyptus citriadora, cinerea, as well as madder, onion skins, lac, cherry ballart and mordants. The results a range of harmonious colours perfect for colour work.
Pre-dyed yarn.. @unwindcraftcafe in Melbourne is stocking a limited release of our hand dyed variegated yarns in kits. Head over to their page to see the post-dyed yarn! So if you can’t make it out to the farm, then swing by Kate and Robyn’s fun shop in Keillor East for a bit of #Polwarth joy.
It’s still definitely winter at Tarndie. Cold and wet outside, but toasty by the fire in the Woolshop studio surrounded by wool wool wool.. We’re open every Friday to Monday 10am to 4pm.
Tarndie is on the road this weekend so the Woolshop will be closed Friday 19 to Monday 22 July 2019. We will be open as normal from 10am on Friday 26 July. We’re hoping to catch up with new friends and old at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show in Bendigo - please call by our stand in the Noble Pavilion near the fashion parade (and coffee cart!).
Indigo Dye Demonstration this Saturday at Tarndie. We’re putting our new found learnings about indigo dye into practice if you’d like to have a squizz. Local dyer Heather will show us some of her natural dye samples too.
The Australian Sheep and Wool Show is 10 days away and Tarndie is full steam in the dye house in preparation. This year, #Polwarth is the feature breed of @sheepshow, marking 100 years of the Polwarth Sheepbreeders Association. Perhaps you’d like to get some polwarth / silk top to spin or felt? Open to suggestions for colour - so take a look at @kraftkolour for inspiration and leave your colour tip in the comments.
Using plant based dyes on our Polwarth yarn achieves such an array of colours - but they all have a depth and earthy richness derived from the natural process. #Repost @wildheather_australia with @get_repost ・・・ Such a beautiful array of colours obtained using just two plants! Natural indigo in a fructose/henna vat and the Australian Native Cherry leaves. Different shades of green from combining the two. All dyed using Polworth wool from @tarndie in white and natural brown shades. I am teaching some natural dyeing workshops at Tarndie farm this winter. Check out their website for details. #naturaldyes #naturalindigo #tarndiepolwarth #naturaldyedyarn
There’s some serious cross pollination going on around Colac. 300 Polwarth woollen bees are set to be installed for #CrossXpollenatioN2019. As part of the annual textile art exhibition, kids can enjoy a workshop on Tuesday 2 July to learn about how bees help us live, and then create a needle felt bee too. Bookings essential - contact COPACC on (03) 5232 9418. CrossXpollinatioN opens next Thursday 27 June and closes 17 July. It’s open daily for a gold coin entry.
